Stittwood, Anacortes: The Hillside Plat With the Long View
A platted Anacortes neighborhood with water and island views from many lots.
Where Stittwood sits in Anacortes
Stittwood is a platted neighborhood on the hill at the south end of Anacortes, along Mitchell Drive, where the numbered streets give out and Whistle Lake Road heads south toward the forest lands. The county record calls it the Plat of Stittwood, recorded in five divisions, and the first two are where my recent work here has been. The name is the Stitts': William and Marjorie Stitt, with W. A. Mitchell, recorded the first Stittwood covenants in November 1976. The hill faces east-northeast over Fidalgo Bay, and the home I listed here looks across the water to Mount Baker on a clear day.
Commercial Avenue and the Highway 20 spur are just west, and it feels farther than that. The road quiets down, the lots get bigger, and the trees close in behind you toward Whistle Lake.

Homes in Stittwood, Anacortes
Stittwood does not have one look. On the Mitchell Drive sales I have tracked, the homes run from 1981 to 1998 and the lots from 0.22 to 0.40 acre, which is two to five times the size of the lots on the downtown grid. The one I listed in 2026 is typical of the better ones: built in 1998 by the household that bought the lot in 1997, one owner ever since, a main level with the primary suite, kitchen, and laundry all on the entry floor, a no-step entry, and a finished daylight lower level. It sits on 0.40 acre, on city sewer and water, with an HOA whose dues were $390 a year, not a month. I also sold the bay-view homesite across the street, in the first division of the plat, in April 2026.
Divisions I, II, IV, and V share one association, the Stittwood Property Owners Association, which restated its covenants in 2019; Division III was replatted as the Blue Heron Circle homes and units, under their own association. Across the Mitchell Drive lots and the Stittwood lots that front Whistle Lake Road, the county shows homes from 1977 to 2005 and a few lots still vacant, on roughly a quarter acre to 0.40.
The views are the point, and I keep my language plain: water and island views, Fidalgo Bay, and Mount Baker on the east-facing lots. The county's own notes run northeast to east-northeast, lot after lot, through channels in the neighbors' trees; on the home I listed it says the view is good to the east-northeast with trees creating obstruction, and on one Division V lot it accounts for highway noise from SR 20 below. Every view here is lot by lot, and I confirm it standing in the room, not from a listing photo.
Getting around from Stittwood
Mitchell Drive meets Whistle Lake Road, and the numbered streets take you over to Commercial Avenue. From there Commercial runs north to downtown Anacortes or south as the state highway spur to Highway 20 and the mainland. The Washington State Ferries terminal is across town on the west side. The Whistle Lake trailhead is south on Whistle Lake Road, and the Ace of Hearts Rotary Park and the off-leash dog park at 38th Street and H Avenue are a short drive back into town.
What is nearby, by name
Whistle Lake and the Anacortes Community Forest Lands, 2,950 city-owned acres of forest, lakes, and trails, are the neighborhood's back fence. Mount Erie Elementary School is at 1313 41st Street, close by on the south side of town, and that is a location, not a promise: The Anacortes School District serves the city, and it is a non-boundary district: the district itself assigns each elementary student to Fidalgo, Island View, or Mount Erie on class size, sibling placement, parent preference, and transportation, not on street address, and sends the assignment by email in the summer. Anacortes Middle School, Anacortes High School, and Cap Sante High School serve the whole city, so no address on this page comes with a guaranteed elementary school, and I do not pretend otherwise. Storvik Park on 32nd Street, 8.7 acres with a Little League field, basketball courts, and a summer spray pad, is the big city park on this end of town.
How I work Stittwood
The Stittwood home I listed had one owner since 1998 and had never been on the market. That calls for a careful listing: the story told truthfully, the view photographed at the right hour, the solar or the remodel documented for the appraiser, and a price built on the actual hillside view-home sales across Anacortes, which I track closely. Start with selling your home and the free EPIC™ Home-Selling Report. If the move is from a long-held home into the next chapter, rightsizing and life transitions are what I do most.
Buyers, a daylight-basement hillside home with main-level living is a specific search, and the multi-generational page covers how I approach a home with two full living levels. By the road from Stittwood
By the road from the middle of Stittwood, it is 6.0 miles to the Anacortes ferry terminal, 2.2 to 10th and Commercial, 16 to the Burlington I-5 exit, 40 to downtown Bellingham. These are road miles from OpenStreetMap routing, measured September 2026, by road and not by ferry.
