Sunset, Anacortes: The Last Streets Before Washington Park
An Anacortes neighborhood DiAnn works regularly.
Where Sunset sits in Anacortes
Sunset is the far west end of Anacortes: the streets off Sunset Avenue between the Skyline plats and the gate of Washington Park, where the avenue ends at 6300 Sunset and the park's loop road takes over. The 220-acre park, with Sunset Beach on its north shore and Green Point on the west, is the neighborhood's back yard, and Burrows Bay and Rosario Strait are the water beyond it. If Skyline is about the marina, Sunset is about the park and the point.
Homes in Sunset, Anacortes
I represented a buyer on Sunset Avenue in 2025, and I would rather tell you what that purchase actually was than pad this page: a 1924 home on a 0.15-acre lot in Wood's Addition, an old plat that predates the Skyline plats next door, with what the county calls a minimal view of Burrows Bay. That is the honest picture of this end of the island. The park and the west light are the reason to be here; a big water view is not something the address hands you.
There are really two housing stocks out here, and the county's plat names draw the line. Most of the streets between Skyline Way and Sunset Avenue are, on the county's books, Skyline: Sugarloaf Street is Skyline No. 1 and No. 2, Burrows Court is Skyline No. 16, and the assessor's records for Sands Way, Sugarloaf Street, Parkside Drive, and Curtis Court show homes built predominantly between 1976 and 2000 on lots of roughly 0.17 to 0.31 acre, all inside the Skyline Property Owners Association with its parks, beaches, and covenants. The Sunset Avenue frontage is the older, separate ground: Wood's Addition, where the 1924 home I helped buy sits and where a 2011 home stands on the same plat; the Norman and Woods subdivision with a 1973 home; and the Plat of Washington Park Estates, recorded in 2000, with homes from 2004.
The county's view notes are candid: Burrows Bay and marina views on the upper end of Sugarloaf Street and on the 5100 to 5300 blocks of Sunset Avenue, with the avenue lots marked down for the road and its traffic; no view of value on the rest. Two of the Sunset Avenue homes are still on septic inside the city, which changes the inspection list, so which plat and which utilities a specific home has is something I read from the record, not by eye.
What is nearby, and the honest trade-off
Washington Park is the reason to be here: 220 city-owned acres jutting into Rosario Strait, a 2.3-mile loop road along the Green Point shoreline for walking, running, and biking, the Sunset Beach boat launch and picnic shelter, 68 campsites, and the pullouts and viewpoint over Burrows Bay on Green Point. The Skyline Marine Center on Skyline Way, with moorage, storage, and a fuel dock, is next door. Downtown Anacortes and Commercial Avenue are a straight drive east on Sunset Avenue, Oakes Avenue, and 12th Street, past the ferry terminal.
The trade-off is distance: this is the farthest west you can live in Anacortes, so every trip to town or the mainland crosses the whole island, and summer ferry traffic on Oakes is between you and downtown. Compared with Skyline, Sunset is a park neighborhood rather than a marina neighborhood.
